Hurricane Floyd

flood1.jpg (14059 bytes)     Henry Transfer and Henry Dock Works, along with the rest of eastern North Carolina were caught unprepared for the catastrophic flooding caused by Hurricane Floyd. As North Carolinians we were prepared for the wind and rain of a hurricane but not the 500-year flood level that Floyd caused. As the Tar River rose we saw devastation never before thought would happen to us.

flood6.jpg (11295 bytes)    Henry Transfer, at its present location since 1954 which has never been inundated with floodwaters, experienced flooding of our offices and maintenance shop with water up to over five feet from the ground. The Tar River located over 1.5 miles from our location ran over its banks in such a rush no one had time to prepare. Our offices had almost three feet of water in them that ruined almost every computer, desk, paper file, etc. located there. Our maintenance shop had almost five feet of water in it while most of our tractors had some sort of flood damage. Some tractors at the lower end of the property had water levels up to the windshield. It was a surreal scene to say the least.

flood8.jpg (10272 bytes)    Obviously, it will take time to recover from such a disaster. However, the Henry workforce pulled together better than anyone could imagine providing a productive, more well-rounded company. If it was not for our employees, dealing with such dire situations, we could have never made it. Thank you each and everyone for the hard work, sacrifices, and diligence that you made to keep Henry running and make it a better company.

Parquet Teak floor didn't like the water.

Our lives were turned upside down.
